FAQs

What is a Live Scan ?

Live Scan Fingerprinting is a digital way to capture fingerprints that are then transmitted to the California Department of Justice and/or FBI. A response is sent to the agency requesting the Live Scan (criminal history or no criminal history). If an applicant has no criminal history a response should be sent from the DOJ to the requesting agency in approximately 48 to 72 hours. If the applicant has any criminal history this process could take INDETERMINATE amount of time.

Why do I need to get a Live Scan ?

Live Scan is a way for CA DOJ and or FBI to complete a criminal background check prior to employment, licensure, or certification. The background check process begins when an applicant agency provides an applicant a BCIA 8016, REQUEST FOR LIVE SCAN SERVICE FORM.

If I had a live scan done before do I have to do it again?

Unfortunately, the California Department of Justice dose not share your information with other agencies. You must submit a new application each time an agency is requesting the “ Request for Live Scan Service”. Your previous live scan was only sent to the requesting agency and cannot be utilized for a different agency.

Can I check the status of my fingerprints?

Yes. You can check the status of your submission by calling an automated telephone system (916) 227-2300, or going to https://applicantstatus.doj.ca.gov/. You will need the following : Date of birth and the 10 digit Automated Transaction Identifier ( ATI) number at the bottom of the completed “ Request for Service Live Scan Form”.

In the event of Fingerprint Rejection.

Fingerprints are rejected by the California Department of Justice on occasion for several reasons. Some of the most common reasons are the applicant’s fingerprints have characteristics that are difficult to capture in the live scan process. This would include items such as cuts, scars and calluses. If an applicant has fingerprints rejected under the circumstances explained above, and they were originally scanned by Andrea’s Mobile Live Scan, we will re-scan and resubmit your fingerprints at no additional charge. If they were not originally submitted by Andrea’s Mobile Live Scan, you will be responsible for the rolling fee

Important Information

Andrea’s Mobile Live Scan is NOT allowed to help applicants in filling out their Request for Live Scan Service form. If your information is incomplete or you have a question, we MUST refer you back to your employer or licensing agency.
